I really like this blog. It’s always fresh, interesting, and well-written. I have to give it up for rileyriverz.com.
rileyriverz is a blog about the internet and its culture. There were several other posts I could have chosen, but the main issue is that rileyriverz does not allow user comments. I really dislike that, but I can’t seem to find a way to change it.
I can’t speak for Riley, but I don’t agree with that. I think its great to allow user comments, because it helps to bring a wider variety of voices to the blog. But rileyriverz is not an all-caps blog, and I don’t think all caps detracts from the writing. It is, after all, a blogging service.
The rileyriverz team is a bit of a cult. I have written and spoken to rileyriverz’s owner on the phone about it. He says he has seen some weird things happen. I am not sure if he is just being nice, or if what has happened has some impact on his life.
This is not a cult. In fact, its quite the opposite, in that the people who run it are a bit more open to change than most. The rileyriverz team would take it easier if people would stop using the word “cult”. I have seen this from them before, and I can also see it happening from them now for a variety of reasons.
I can’t tell if this is a cult yet (or if it’s just a random group of people who are just interested in doing weird things), but it is definitely a new word (in the sense of the English language) to me. I’m not sure how rileyriverz will affect our lives, but the people involved definitely seem to be looking to move us off of the cult-like category.

We think of cults as being like the Jehovah’s Witnesses or the Jehovah’s Witnesses being a good example of a cult, but the reality is that only a few of them (like the Jehovah’s Witnesses) are really legitimate cults.
